Banning smartphones in middle schools in Norway has led to higher academic and mental health outcomes for girls and drastically reduced incidences of bullying among both boys and girls. What’s more, the positive impacts were more pronounced for girls from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Showing unstructured technology use may have more negative impacts for kids from already disadvantaged backgrounds.
